Multichannel Inventory Management Software for Ecommerce Sellers
Multichannel Inventory Management
Selling on a single channel is simple — your store's inventory count is authoritative. Add a second channel (say, Amazon alongside your Shopify store), and a new problem emerges: the same physical units appear independently on two platforms. When a sale comes in on one, the other doesn't know. Oversells follow.
Multichannel inventory management is the practice of maintaining a single shared inventory count that feeds every channel you sell on, so stock levels stay accurate everywhere — automatically. Ordoro is inventory management software built for exactly this: it connects your sales channels to one shared inventory pool, propagates updates on a configurable sync schedule, and gives your team one screen for orders, shipping, and stock regardless of which channel the order came from.
How Multichannel Inventory Sync Works in Ordoro
Ordoro maintains a single on-hand quantity per SKU. When a sale arrives from any connected channel — Shopify, Amazon, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, or others — Ordoro decrements that shared quantity and marks the product as "Needs Sync." On the next sync cycle, Ordoro writes the updated quantity back to every connected channel simultaneously.
The sync has two components:
Order import (inbound): New orders pull from your channels into Ordoro continuously. For channels that support Instasync (Shopify, BigCommerce, and others), orders arrive the moment they're placed — via webhook, with no polling delay. For other channels, Ordoro imports on a configurable schedule.
Inventory writeback (outbound): Updated quantities push back to your channels on a schedule you set — every 10 minutes, hourly, every 6 hours, or daily. Hourly is the default for most sellers. High-velocity stores can drop to 10-minute intervals. Only products in "Needs Sync" status are written back on each cycle — products whose quantity hasn't changed are skipped, keeping API calls efficient.
Important: Inventory writeback is disabled by default. You enable it per channel in Ordoro's Sync Settings by clicking the blue Sync button in the upper right corner, checking the "Write Inventory Back" box for each channel, and saving. Once enabled, it runs automatically on your chosen schedule without manual intervention. If the Sync button isn't visible, see: Why don't I see a Sync button? If Ordoro sends an Autosync Disabled notification, it means a connectivity error halted automatic order import — see: What is an Autosync Disabled email? See: How to enable inventory writeback to sales channels | Watch: How to Enable or Disable Inventory Sync in Ordoro | How Often Do Syncs Run in Ordoro | How to Run a One-Time Sync in Ordoro
Example: You have 50 units of a SKU listed on Shopify, Amazon, and BigCommerce. A Shopify order comes in for 3. Ordoro imports the order, decrements shared inventory to 47, and marks the product Needs Sync. On the next writeback cycle, Ordoro pushes 47 to Amazon and BigCommerce. Both channels now reflect the correct quantity without any manual update.

Which Channels Ordoro Connects To
Ordoro integrates with the major ecommerce platforms and marketplaces:
- Shopify (including Shopify Plus and Shopify POS) — orders import via Instasync webhook within seconds; inventory writeback on a configurable schedule
- Amazon US, Canada, and UK — Professional Seller Central accounts; FBM orders import and fulfill through Ordoro; FBA inventory tracked separately
- BigCommerce — products, orders, inventory writeback, and tracking; supports Instasync for real-time order import
- WooCommerce — products, orders, inventory writeback, and tracking numbers via REST API
- eBay, Etsy, Walmart, Squarespace, Magento, Ecwid, Reverb, Wayfair, and more
Each channel is configured independently. You can enable writeback for Shopify but leave it disabled for Amazon if you manage Amazon inventory separately. Sync frequency is configurable per channel — so a high-velocity Shopify store can sync every 10 minutes while a slower eBay listing syncs hourly.
Multiple storefronts of the same type are supported: two Shopify stores, or a combination of Shopify, WooCommerce, and Amazon, can all share the same inventory pool in one Ordoro account.

Multi-Warehouse Inventory Across Channels
If your stock is split across warehouses, a 3PL, or a retail location, Ordoro tracks inventory at each location separately. Each Ordoro warehouse maps to a location in your connected sales channels. When an order ships from a specific warehouse, inventory decrements from that location only — other warehouses are unaffected and their counts are not touched.
Example: You have 30 units in your Texas warehouse and 20 units in your California 3PL for the same SKU. A Shopify order routes to California for fulfillment. Ordoro decrements the California count to 19. Texas remains at 30. Ordoro writes the combined total (49) back to any channels that show aggregate availability.
You can transfer inventory between warehouses directly in Ordoro as you rebalance stock. See: How do I transfer inventory between warehouses? and Warehouse Inventory Write-Back By Sales Channel
Kitting and Bundles Across Channels
If you sell products individually and also as bundles or kits across your channels, the same physical components appear in multiple SKUs. Without component-level tracking, a kit sale can silently deplete components that are also listed individually — leading to oversells on the individual listings.
Ordoro handles this with component-level kitting. You define a kit by specifying which component SKUs it contains and in what quantities. Ordoro calculates kit availability from the live inventory of those components. When a kit sells on any channel, the correct component quantities are decremented automatically — and kit availability across all channels updates on the next sync cycle.
Example: You sell "Widget Pro" individually on Amazon and as part of a "Starter Bundle" (1× Widget Pro + 2× Widget Base) on Shopify. You have 80 units of Widget Pro and 60 units of Widget Base. Ordoro calculates 30 possible bundles (limited by Widget Base at 2 per kit). An Amazon order for 5 individual Widget Pros comes in — Ordoro decrements Widget Pro to 75, and the bundle availability drops to 28 automatically.

Multichannel Order Fulfillment
Orders from every connected channel arrive in one Ordoro queue. Your team works from a single screen regardless of which channel the order came from — no switching between Shopify admin, Seller Central, and BigCommerce to process the day's orders.
From the unified queue you can:
- Barcode scan to verify each item during picking before a label prints
- Batch-print labels for dozens or hundreds of orders at once
- Access discounted carrier rates — USPS (up to 67% off retail), FedEx, UPS, and Canada Post
- Route dropship orders to suppliers automatically without manual forwarding
- Post tracking numbers back to each originating channel, triggering that channel's fulfillment confirmation and customer shipping notification (see: How can I resend tracking to my sales channel? | Watch: How to Resend Tracking to Sales Channels in Ordoro if a writeback fails)
Mixed orders — some items ship from your warehouse, others route to a dropship supplier — split automatically in Ordoro.
Inventory Costing Across Channels
Every time a purchase order is received in Ordoro, the product's cost record updates automatically using weighted average unit cost (WAC). This keeps cost data current as supplier prices change — without manual adjustments. Supplier costs from POs feed Ordoro's margin analytics, which calculate gross profit per order and per product regardless of which channel the sale came from.
This matters for multichannel sellers because margin visibility shouldn't require reconciling costs from multiple systems. A sale on Amazon, Shopify, and eBay all draw from the same cost record and feed the same analytics — so you can see which channels are actually profitable at the product level.
User Permissions for Multichannel Operations
As your team grows across channels, different roles need different levels of access. A warehouse picker processing Shopify and Amazon orders doesn't need visibility into supplier costs or the ability to adjust channel sync settings.
Ordoro's user-level permissions let you scope access by role:
- Warehouse staff can pick, pack, and ship from the unified order queue without touching inventory settings or channel configurations
- Purchasing staff can create and send POs without accessing order fulfillment across channels
- Managers can view margin data and inventory valuations across all channels while restricting that data from other users
Permissions also control who can adjust inventory quantities manually and who can modify "Write Inventory Back" settings per channel — preventing accidental sync overwrites during high-volume periods. See: Can I select which users can adjust/update inventory in Ordoro? and Can I prevent users from updating my "Write Inventory Back" settings?
Multichannel vs Omnichannel Inventory Management
These terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different scopes:
Multichannel refers to selling through multiple independent channels (your website, Amazon, eBay) with coordinated inventory — each channel is managed, but they may operate independently from the customer's perspective.
Omnichannel refers to a unified customer experience across channels — where a customer can buy online and return in-store, or buy in-store and have it shipped from a warehouse. It requires the same inventory coordination as multichannel, but extends into customer experience continuity across touchpoints.
From an inventory management standpoint, the underlying requirement is identical: a single shared inventory pool that decrements correctly wherever a sale occurs, whether the channel is digital or physical. Ordoro handles this — including BOPIS (Buy Online, Pick Up In Store) routing — by mapping each warehouse or retail location as a separate fulfillment origin.
What Multichannel Sellers Say About Ordoro
Taste of Texas, a Houston-based restaurant and specialty beef retailer, sells through BigCommerce and a physical storefront simultaneously. During peak season (Thanksgiving through Christmas), they handle up to 1,300 orders per day. Ordoro routes orders between online fulfillment and in-store pickup automatically. Before Ordoro, label printing took 7 hours daily — after, 30 minutes. A 75% reduction in fulfillment time. *"We couldn't have grown 250% compounded annually without the automation features that Ordoro has provided."* — Corbin Blackford, General Counsel. Spa Store, New Zealand's first major online spa and pool supply retailer, has used Ordoro since 2012. They operate two sales channels (BigCommerce and TradeMe) with 2,000 SKUs and a hybrid fulfillment model: approximately half their orders ship from a 3PL and half route to dropship suppliers. Ordoro's automation rules handle this routing without manual intervention. *"The strength of Ordoro is that we've never had a problem with scalability"* — whether handling 10 or 1,000 monthly orders. Frequently Asked Questions
What is multichannel inventory management?
The practice of maintaining a single authoritative inventory count that stays synchronized across every channel you sell on — so when a sale occurs on Amazon, your Shopify and eBay listings immediately reflect the updated quantity. It prevents oversells and eliminates the manual work of updating stock levels channel by channel after every sale.
What is the best multichannel inventory management software?
For ecommerce sellers on Shopify, Amazon, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, eBay, Etsy, and Walmart who need inventory sync, purchase orders, multi-warehouse tracking, kitting, and fulfillment in one platform, Ordoro is the strongest option. It's 4.9-star rated and used by hundreds of sellers who've outgrown manual channel-by-channel inventory updates.
How does Ordoro sync inventory across channels?
Ordoro maintains a single shared quantity per SKU. When a sale arrives from any channel, Ordoro decrements the shared count and marks the product as "Needs Sync." Inventory writeback then pushes the updated quantity to every connected channel on a configurable schedule (every 10 minutes to daily). Writeback is disabled by default and must be enabled per channel in Sync Settings. See: Auto-sync inventory across sales channels
How do I manage inventory across multiple locations?
In Ordoro, each physical location — warehouse, 3PL, retail store — is configured as a separate warehouse. When an order ships from a location, inventory decrements from that warehouse only. You can see per-location counts for every SKU, set reorder points per warehouse, and transfer inventory between locations directly in Ordoro.
What is the difference between multichannel and omnichannel inventory management?
Multichannel means selling on multiple independent platforms with synchronized inventory. Omnichannel extends this to a unified customer experience across channels — buy online, return in-store, BOPIS, etc. Both require the same underlying inventory infrastructure: a shared pool that decrements correctly wherever a sale or return occurs. Ordoro supports both models by mapping each fulfillment origin (including retail locations) as a separate warehouse with per-location tracking.
Does Ordoro support Amazon multichannel inventory sync?
Yes. Ordoro connects to Amazon Seller Central and keeps inventory synchronized between Amazon and your other channels. When an Amazon order ships, Ordoro decrements the shared inventory count and writes the updated quantity back to Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, eBay, and any other connected channels on the next sync cycle.
What happens if two orders come in simultaneously on different channels?
Ordoro processes each order against the same shared inventory pool. If 50 units are available and a Shopify order for 3 and an Amazon order for 5 arrive in the same window, Ordoro decrements to 42 and writes 42 back to all channels on the next sync. The sync schedule (minimum 10 minutes) means a very brief window of potential oversell exists on high-velocity SKUs — sellers with fast-moving inventory on multiple channels typically use 10-minute sync intervals or keep a buffer stock to absorb this.
How do I set up multichannel inventory sync in Ordoro?
Connect each sales channel under Ordoro's Sales Channel settings. Once channels are linked, Ordoro begins importing orders automatically. To enable inventory writeback, click the blue Sync button in the upper right corner, check "Write Inventory Back" for each channel you want to push inventory to, and save. Select your preferred sync frequency (10 minutes, hourly, 6 hours, or daily) based on your order velocity.
How long does it take to set up multichannel inventory sync?
Most Ordoro merchants are fully operational within a week. Every new account includes five weekly onboarding calls with a dedicated specialist covering channel connections, warehouse setup, writeback configuration, and PO workflows. Schedule a demo to walk through your specific channel setup before committing.
How do I migrate from managing inventory channel-by-channel to a central system?
Connect your channels to Ordoro, set your current inventory counts as the baseline in Ordoro, and enable writeback for each channel. From that point, Ordoro becomes the single source of truth — all channel counts update from Ordoro, not the other way around. Run parallel for a short period to verify sync accuracy before stopping manual channel updates. Historical per-channel inventory data stays in each platform's admin.
